Splash in Wonderland

Splash was recently featured in the yellowlicious book Logology® 2, the self-proclaimed “Wonderland of Logo Design”. With over 1600 of the most recent logos featured, Splash had the honour to open the show with a full 6-page case study on our work for local bubble teahouse, Artease. With a good sense for design, our work successfully conveyed the playfulness and unconventionality of our client.

By introducing the mascots and character friends, we were hoping that we can inject some fun and allow better remembrance of the new brand of product.

You can also feast your eyes on the other collaterals we’ve done for them at the portfolio page; perhaps you would like to start from here.

Seeing Red

Cavanista is here once more! Everyone at Splash has to rack their brains and put on their best outfit if they want to win the title of Most Patriotic Splashee. (Hot tip: All it takes is an awesome costume and a kiao kah. ;) ) For the month of August, we predictably chose to show our affection for Singapore and were encouraged to express what we love about this Little Red Dot in our dress.

Gorgeous-looking fun aside, Cavanista requires a lot of work and preparation. The night before our big day, the planning crew got down and roped in a few people to help put up our backdrop. Wanna make a guess what it looks like?

It was like piecing a puzzle together, but of epic proportions and confusion. After tons of cutting, taping, measuring, matching, and stapling, the backdrop was finally up.

Not to mention the copious amounts of double-sided tape we used.

Alas, everything’s done and we’re ready to celebrate this National Day Cavan Road-style. 8-)

You can check out the photos over here. Feel free to support your favourite character(s) by -ing their photo and don’t forget to spread the red cheer to Singaporeans and non-Singaporeans alike! Have a splashsational August. :D

ROOAARRR!

Yay indeed! Who didn’t love The Lion King as a kid? So when Splashees got the email more than a month ago asking if anyone was interested in attending the Broadway-remake of our favourite Disney classic, we raised our hands all too enthusiastically.

Rafiki the Mandrill-Baboon
Hey, count me in too!

Five weeks on, the excited bunch from Splash piled into several automobiles after a hard day’s work, and headed to the Marina Bay Sands Theatre. We stopped by Artease (a dear friend’s cafe) en route for dinner, and swiftly walked the calories off on our way to the Sands Theatre.

Along the way, we crossed The Helix Bridge — my virgin traverse since its opening in April last year. I was suitably impressed with the pretty lights and scenery, but when I looked down and saw the repeating lit circles of A, T, G, C, the ex-Biology student in me could not help but give the face of judgement: -____-”. Perhaps Singapore is trying to remind everyone how geeky we are…

No matter, our spirits were not the least bit dampened. It was also my first time in MBS; as we walked along, I gaped at the opulent interior of the integrated resort, soaking in the attas atmosphere all-around. Brice got a tip-off that the first ten minutes were the best bit of the show, so we made sure we arrived early and took our seats.

Moar Splashees
More happy Splashees

The musical did not disappoint, to say the least. The production was a true spectacle filled with great music, ingenious use of props, and costumes full of rich details. A few of us were passing around two binoculars so that we could scrutinise the faces and glorious outfits of those lions, deer, and hyenas. The cast even threw in a few Singaporean touches, spicing up the performance with Mandarin, Singlish and local references, making this a “Uniquely Singapore” experience.

Surely, we all arrived with different expectations: some were eager to re-live childhood memories, some were eager to witness the much-praised props and costumes, and some just wanted a good time. Nonetheless, I can safely say we all came out satisfied, all thanks to the generosity of our amazing, wonderful, kind, brilliant, good-looking, excellent, honourable, big-hearted bosses. ;) (Hint: We didn’t have to pay for our tickets!)

Another fun memory to add to the archives of Splash family outings!

If you’ve got it, flaunt it

That was the tip for this July’s Cavanista.

Suits, checked. High-heels, checked. That million-dollar look, checked. On this exciting day, Splashees decided to ditch those old jeans and came to office clad in their Sunday best. The more expensive the better, and in Singaporean vernacular, we would all shout – “Attas”!!! It was a no-nonsense shoot. Splashees came posing to impress, with some resembling confident businessmen, while others exuding a more reflective and raw feel. We loved every moment of it.

See our black and white portraits here. And check out the behind-the-scenes video here!

We got SPACED IN.

“Who says an office must be boring?” exclaimed the people at SPACE magazine.

In their 2011 #2 issue, SPACE magazine featured Splash’s studio and loved the open space concept. “It’s so open that every action is in everyone’s line of sight and perhaps every whisper is in the path of audibility.” Yes, that’s why Splashees enjoy shouting across the 6000 square feet room to get things done, or as a friendly cheer to encourage a friend.

SPACE magazine admired how every corner in the office is considered carefully to serve a certain purpose, and of course, tampered with quirky and fun design ideas. Enjoy the article below!

Life is a Blast! It brings good news.

How’s your T-shirt design preparation coming along? Let us bring you good news before you bring us yours.

Firstly, by (un)popular demand, the submission deadline is now 31 July 2011. Don’t ask why, it just feels right to give you more time. Your timeless design deserves, well, more time to coax.

Next, in case you get carried away with the idea that the internship is a given … it is not. We have to offer, and you have to accept. If you win, we will offer, of course. Even then, we give you time to think about whether you really want to put in three months with us (to design more design competitions, among other things). Or if you want to trade the internship for a sheep called “Intern”; similarly, it is yours for three months.

Enough of good news? Now, back to your preparation, peeps. And be sure to check your email to see if you’ve received a confirmation from us that says we’ve received your lovely design! See you soon! Have a Blast.

Designnet gets Splashed

안녕하세요!  우리는 한국 잡지, Designnet 에서 특색지어졌다! Oops, in case you missed that, we were featured in July 2011′s issue of Designnet. Isn’t that awesome? None of us Splashees understand the language, so we google translated it of course. Other than saying Splash is an awesome space filled with a bunch of cool people, Designnet also featured a few projects we did. Click on the image on the right to find out which! It’s great to know we’re moving people halfway around the world with our Splashee spirit.

We promise to move you too.

Ultra Nerds and Super Geeks

We’re all a little geeky. Here at Splash, we celebrate the nerd in us with a big bang. In our recent Canvanista, Splashees came into the office with horn-rimmed glasses, suspenders, hair parted in the middle and knee-high socks, hoping to clinch the title of the Cavanista Nerd. Don’t fight the nerd in you. Embrace it!

All nerds and geeks here. Check out out our behind-the-scenes pictures below!
