Splash in Design and Design!

One day, Splash Art Director Norman Lai couldn’t get a catchy tune out of his head. Yes, the same way Kylie Minogue felt when she sang, “La la la… I just can’t get you out of my head…” It did feel like eternity, so Norman decided to immortalise the moment with a cassette-head duo. “This poster is for everyone who’s ever gone through that torture,” he explains.

We are delighted that distinguished design community Design and Design concurs, and awarded Norman’s work as Graphic Design of the Day on 2 September 2011. Now, we can’t wait for Norman’s design to be featured in DaD’s Book of the Year!

Splash in Wonderland

Splash was recently featured in the yellowlicious book Logology® 2, the self-proclaimed “Wonderland of Logo Design”. With over 1600 of the most recent logos featured, Splash had the honour to open the show with a full 6-page case study on our work for local bubble teahouse, Artease. With a good sense for design, our work successfully conveyed the playfulness and unconventionality of our client.

By introducing the mascots and character friends, we were hoping that we can inject some fun and allow better remembrance of the new brand of product.

You can also feast your eyes on the other collaterals we’ve done for them at the portfolio page; perhaps you would like to start from here.

We got SPACED IN.

“Who says an office must be boring?” exclaimed the people at SPACE magazine.

In their 2011 #2 issue, SPACE magazine featured Splash’s studio and loved the open space concept. “It’s so open that every action is in everyone’s line of sight and perhaps every whisper is in the path of audibility.” Yes, that’s why Splashees enjoy shouting across the 6000 square feet room to get things done, or as a friendly cheer to encourage a friend.

SPACE magazine admired how every corner in the office is considered carefully to serve a certain purpose, and of course, tampered with quirky and fun design ideas. Enjoy the article below!

Designnet gets Splashed

안녕하세요!  우리는 한국 잡지, Designnet 에서 특색지어졌다! Oops, in case you missed that, we were featured in July 2011′s issue of Designnet. Isn’t that awesome? None of us Splashees understand the language, so we google translated it of course. Other than saying Splash is an awesome space filled with a bunch of cool people, Designnet also featured a few projects we did. Click on the image on the right to find out which! It’s great to know we’re moving people halfway around the world with our Splashee spirit.

We promise to move you too.

Best of Cover Design

So what have the Splashees been up to? Making splashes of course. We were featured in Altitude’s Best of Cover Designs, part of their Best Of series for Rockport Publishers. Twice. Have you seen our entries?

Life’s A Stage
It wasn’t too long ago when “going to catch a show” meant shuffling in the mud and squeezing on a wooden bench to watch characters in colourful armour tell us stories about life and destiny. Three curious Splashees embarked on an expedition to tell the story of our Hokkien opera scene in a photo journal.

The cover design adopts the guise of a 全本 (quán běn) that dictates onstage traffic in a sequence. Chinese opera revels in the art of masquerade, and we make no attempt to break the tradition.

Cure with All Our Heart
Improving patient care runs through the core of the SingHealth foundation, and what better way to symbolise this, than with a design stretching from cover to cover?

SingHealth aims to inspire its shareholders and other organisations to share their passion in changing the lives of patients. The phrase “tugging at heartstrings” motivated our Splashees to design a cover that reflects the company’s ever-continuing effort and aspiration to work across boards to enhance healthcare provision in Singapore.

Copywriter: Low Jat Leng
